About Tethys Advisors Ltd.



Tethys Advisors is based in Edinburgh and was formed from a management buyout of EFG-Hermes UK Ltd in 2004, an advisory company founded by Tristan Clube in 1998. The principal business is advising on investment strategy and quoted companies across the Middle East. Tethys Advisors is regulated by the FCA.

Tristan Clube is the Managing Director of Tethys Advisors and has over 36 years’ experience in emerging markets, the last 30 years of which have been in the Middle East. In the 1990s he was a Director and latterly Head of Emerging Markets at Martin Currie Investment Management Ltd. Subsequently at Tethys Advisors, major clients have included EFG Hermes, Emerging Markets Management LLC (now Ashmore PLC), and SQM Frontier Management LP. At EMM and SQM, the principal client base investing into the Middle East primarily comprised major US Endowment and Foundation Funds and both specialist Middle East funds at these organisations were recognised as leaders in their sector. Clients of Tethys have also included Bank Muscat, BMA Capital Pakistan, Commercial Bank of Qatar, Martin Currie Investment Management and Reliance Capital India. Tristan Clube has been involved in advising and initiating many country and regional investment funds including projects in the GCC, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and India. His first involvement was through the pioneering Martin Currie Near East Opportunities Fund which became one of the first international investors across the region. He is a graduate of Oxford University and has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh.

Tethys’ main interest currently is in Qatar and the implementation pathway towards net zero. The Company has had an involvement here since 1998, before the first major LNG expansion. Tethys is a supporter of local charities and is carbon neutral.
